Ramakrishna Ghosh Ruled Out of IPL 2026 After Debut Injury, CSK Yet to Name Replacement

Chennai Super Kings face fresh setbacks as promising all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh suffers a fracture during his first IPL appearance.
The injury concerns for the Chennai Super Kings continue to mount in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season, with bowling all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh officially ruled out of the tournament. The setback comes immediately after the youngster made an impressive debut against the Mumbai Indians earlier this week.

Injury Cuts Short a Dream Debut

Ghosh’s entry into the IPL had all the elements of a breakthrough moment, but it ended abruptly due to injury. According to an official statement from the Chennai-based franchise, the player sustained a fracture in his right leg during the match played on May 2 in Chennai.
The incident has not only sidelined the emerging talent for the rest of the season but has also added to CSK’s growing list of injured players. As of now, the team management has not announced a replacement, leaving uncertainty around their squad balance for the remaining matches.

A Promising Performance Before the Setback

Despite the unfortunate ending, Ghosh made a strong impression in his debut outing. The Maharashtra-based medium pacer showcased both athleticism and skill early in the game.
He announced his arrival in style by pulling off a sharp diving catch at backward point, dismissing Mumbai opener Will Jacks near the boundary. Shortly after, Ghosh demonstrated his bowling potential by claiming the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, widely regarded as one of the top T20 batters in the world. The dismissal came via a well-directed short-pitched delivery, clocked at around 133 km/h, highlighting his pace and control.
His brief performance hinted at a player capable of contributing in multiple departments—something CSK has traditionally valued in its squad composition.

From Auction Pick to First-Team Opportunity

Ghosh was picked up by Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2025 mega auction at his base price of ₹30 lakh. Although he did not feature in any matches last season, the franchise retained him, signaling long-term confidence in his abilities.
That faith was rewarded with a debut opportunity this season. However, just as he began to justify the team’s investment, injury intervened, cutting short what could have been a defining campaign for the young all-rounder.

Injury Woes Deepen for Chennai

Ghosh is now the fourth CSK player to be ruled out of the current season due to injury, and notably the third fast bowler. Earlier, players like Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre, and Khaleel Ahmed were also sidelined.
This string of injuries has significantly disrupted the team’s bowling plans. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad now faces the challenge of managing limited pace-bowling options, which could impact CSK’s performance in the crucial final phase of the league stage.

Playoff Race Tightens as CSK Look Ahead

Currently placed sixth on the points table, Chennai Super Kings have had a mixed campaign so far. Out of nine matches, the team has secured four wins while suffering five losses. With the playoff race heating up, every remaining match becomes critical.
CSK’s next fixture is scheduled for May 5 against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The match is expected to be a must-win encounter if the team hopes to stay in contention for the knockout stages.

Uncertainty and Opportunity Ahead

While Ghosh’s absence is undoubtedly a blow, it may open the door for another player to step up. Chennai Super Kings, known for backing emerging talent and adapting under pressure, will need to once again rely on their depth and experience.
For Ramakrishna Ghosh, the focus will now shift to recovery and rehabilitation. Though his IPL 2026 journey has ended prematurely, his debut performance has already offered a glimpse of his potential—suggesting that this may only be the beginning of a promising career.
